I’m a hair stylist and you’ve been brushing your locks all wrong – here’s how to do it without causing any split ends
BRUSHING your hair might seem pretty self explanatory, but according to one stylist you’ve probably been doing it all wrong.
Matt Newman, who is a professional hair stylist and influencer, revealed there’s a right way and a wrong way to detangle your locks.
The wrong way can damage your hair and cause split ends[/caption]You shouldn’t bother brushing down from the top of your head, the pro explained.
Not only will dragging a hairbrush through your tresses from top to bottom probably hurt, but it can cause even more damage.
Instead, Matt recommended splitting your hair into smaller sections and starting from the ends of the lengths.
Before brushing, you should also check the bristles of your hair brush are nice and straight.
“If you hold it horizontally the bristles aren’t in straight rows, they’re a brick laid pattern,” he explained.
So, to prevent split ends and make detangling your hair less painful, all you need to do is make sure you’re holding the brush straight, and go section by section.
After sharing the easy trick on TikTok fellow hair fans were left divided by the pro’s advice.
One said: “I don’t have time for that.”
And a second slammed: “I’ll brush my hair however I want.”
But others appreciated the helpful tip and couldn’t wait to see if it make a difference to their tresses.
“I brushed my hair like that, but only separate it in two halves and it works,” one said.
Another agreed: “It’s great if you’ve got curly or messy hair.”
“As the sister of a salon owner, facts. Always start at the bottom and work your way up.
“I find there’s less damage to my ends if I do this,” someone else commented.
