This week starts off with the inaugural Mini Quadrangular on the Old Course with a brand new Trophy to play for. It is Teams of 8 with the best 6 Stableford scores to count: Men v Ladies v Staff v Jason Floyd Academy. Thanks to all those selected to take part. I’m in the mood to win another Trophy! Wednesday 13 September: Home ACL Match v Guadalmina
A great Team performance gave us a 10.5 to 7.5 win on the Old Course. Home advantage was minimised with the greens running at 11 on the stimp, but some tricky pins probably helped us out. The Captain and Bill Fletcher got revenge from the other week away at Guadalmina with a 2 up home win, with both of us finishing strongly; 3, 5, 4 was enough to secure it after a very tight encounter. Bill was threatening to leave the Club if we didn’t win! The Home success gave us a useful overall result: San Roque 19 Guadalmina 17 Excellent wins for Norman Savitz & Jorg Kühnert (in the final group, getting all 3 points); Duncan Quigley & Francis Payne (securing 2.5 points) with Toon Van Berlo & Paul Weigall getting a useful half (1.5 points) and Paul Holliday & Jim Jenet managing a vital point in another very close match. The food was very good; my thanks to Mirko and his team. Old Course in magnificent condition so well done to Borja and all his staff. This was well appreciated by Miguel and his players.
First: David MacGregor (38 points) Second: Simon Wombwell (38 points, on handicap) Third: Yury Pogiba (35 points) Fourth: Andrew Macauley (35 points, on handicap) Chris Hutchin and Ian French also had 35 points. Twos: David MacGregor (2), Derek Rogers, Andy Rogers Nearest the Pin on Hole 12: Neville Kutner Best Gross: David MacGregor (73) Tissue: Not issued. Thank you to Duncan for officiating whilst I had a rest. Well done Vice!

Golfing Anecdotes:
The Solheim Cup is named after the Norwegian-American golf club manufacturers Karsten and Louise Solheim. The founders of the PING brand have been instrumental in its development, including the addition of the PING Junior Event which is being hosted this year on the Old Course at La Zagaleta. The first Solheim Cup was held in 1990 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida with the US Team cruising to a 11.5 to 4.5 victory. Now, as per the Ryder Cup, there are 28 points up for grabs. Laura Davies holds the record for most Solheim Cup appearances as a player (12) and is also the record points scorer (25). There has only ever been one hole-in-one at the Solheim Cup, that was by Anna Nordqvist in 2013 at Colorado GC. The Solheim Cup has been contested 17 times; USA currently leads Europe 10-7. Here’s to hoping for another Europe win! Enjoy your golf this week.
