A dad who Googled ‘How do I stop abusing my baby?’ before killing his infant son has been jailed for at least 27 years. Kaliq Mansor, of Washington County in Oregon, was sentenced Wednesday for the 2011 manslaughter of his son Bryan after an earlier murder conviction was overturned.
Mansor’s 2012 conviction was declared unsound in 2018 over concerns about a search warrant executed on the killer’s computer shortly after Bryan’s death, and which formed part of the prosecution’s case against him. He had been due to stand trial again this fall, but opted to admit a series of crimes including first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault.
The disputed search of Mansor’s internet history also included the phrases ‘How do I stop losing my temper?’, ‘father hates infant’ ‘abuser therapy’ and ‘Oregon child abuse laws.’ Mansor claimed Bryan had died in June 2011 after the little boy began to choke while being fed.
He dialed 911 to report that Bryan was not breathing, with the baby rushed to hospital, where he was declared brain dead the next day and taken off life support shortly afterwards.
Questioned about what had happened, Mansor claimed he’d shaken Bryan and smacked his back to try and dislodge the food he was choking on. The killer said his baby’s breathing had become labored, but that he’d waited a further 15 minutes before dialing 911.
Bryan’s mom Angela Foster said the infant and his twin brother Ethan were born prematurely, but both boys acted normally and healthily up until the day of her son’s death.
She blasted Mansor for failing to tell the truth in a scathing letter that was read to court, Fox12 reported.
It said: ‘Mr Mansor had nine long years to take responsibility for Bryan’s horrific, senseless murder. Instead of choosing to do the right thing, he has taken every possible opportunity to avoid owning up to what he has done.
‘His blatant refusal to be held accountable for his crimes illustrates his innate cruelty, and his callous indifference towards my sons.
‘Over the last nine years, Mr Mansor has deliberately gone out of his way to inflict as much pain and suffering on my family as possible.
‘This has included relentless attacks on my reputation, as well as his family’s continued efforts to intimidate and bully me in a pathetic attempt to deflect from the sickening truth.
‘While I’m grateful that this gut-wrenching phase of the legal process is over, I don’t believe for one second that Mr Mansor’s motives are anything but selfish.
‘In private, I suspect he will still maintain his innocence to his family, saying that he had no choice but to fall on his imaginary sword in an effort to “protect” me and my son.’
The letter contined: ‘The truth is that Mr Mansor wanted to end HIS suffering, not my family’s. He did not have a change of heart, nor has he shown any remorse – he simply wants this to be done.
‘The aftermath of Bryan’s murder will never be over for my family. Justice has been delayed for an excruciating nine years. But tonight, when I look up to the heavens, I am comforted to know that my precious Bryan can at long last rest in peace.’
