One of UK’s first gay dads has baby girl with daughter’s ex-boyfriend

One of Britain’s first gay dads has welcomed his second daughter via surrogate with his fiancé, who used to date his eldest.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 50, is engaged to his assistant Scott Hutchison, 25, who previously went out with his 20-year-old daughter Saffron for several months.

Earlier this year the couple announced they were expecting a baby together in October, but Barrie revealed yesterday that Valentina Willow Drewitt-Barlow had arrived a month early.

In an adorable clip posted to Instagram he said the newborn is ‘perfect’, adding that the pair feel ‘totally blessed’.

His Instagram post, which has been liked more than 1,000 times, was captioned: ‘Welcome to the world our beautiful daughter – Valentina Willow Drewitt-Barlow x our girl is almost a month early but she is perfect. We feel totally blessed x I love you Scott x’

Barrie, who is originally from Manchester, hit the headlines in 1999 when he and former partner Tony became the first same sex couple to be formally registered as parents. Their surrogate gave birth to twins Aspen and Saffron.

The fathers are worth around £40million and live in a 10-bedroom mansion in Florida worth £6 million.

After Saffron and Aspen arrived, Tony and Barrie had another three children, Orlando, Jasper and Dallas.

Barrie and Tony became civil partners in 2006, before tying the knot on the first day same sex marriage became legal in 2014.

But the pair ‘slid into a platonic relationship’ after Tony was diagnosed with cancer, with Barrie spending more time with Scott while his husband was in hospital last year.

Despite ending their relationship last year, he said Tony remained his ‘true love’ and the latter agreed to be godfather to Barrie and Scott’s baby.

All three men, along with the children, live together under the same roof in their Florida mansion.
