The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel, said that the damp climate contributes to the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and pneumonia in the city.
According to him, St. Petersburg has a high spread of coronavirus, but the city is not the leader in this indicator among Russian regions. “The damp climate of St. Petersburg also plays against us, it was not for nothing that it was scolded at all times. It disposes to the development of pulmonary diseases, we also have pneumonia, ”the governor said, adding that in late November – early December in St. Petersburg traditionally comes the time of illness with seasonal colds and SARS.
He said that by the end of this year, it is planned to deploy about 2,000 more beds in coronavirus hospitals in the city. According to him, about 3.5-4% of beds are free every day. “There will be enough places for hospitalization of patients with coronavirus in the city until the New Year,” Beglov said.
The head of the department of Rospotrebnadzor in St. Petersburg Natalia Bashketova said on the air of the TV channel “78” that there is now a tense situation with the coronavirus in the city. “In our country, it is primarily due to the heavy load on the healthcare system,” she said.
Bashketova said that residents of St. Petersburg should not leave the city, and guests should not come there because of the situation with the coronavirus. “Why were restrictive measures introduced? So that they don’t come here. We have no choice, ”she explained.
The head of the city administration of Rospotrebnadzor recalled that the city authorities had not previously introduced any restrictions on entry and exit, however, other regions imposed restrictions on residents of St. Petersburg during the first wave of COVID-19. “Some subjects were severely restricted and quarantined for 14 days upon arrival in the subject. We have not introduced this in St. Petersburg. I cannot say yet how it will develop further, ”Bashketova concluded (quoted by RIA Novosti).
According to the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, over the entire period of the pandemic in St. Petersburg, COVID-19 was detected in 204.5 thousand people, of which 119 thousand recovered, 6917 people died.
Due to the spread of coronavirus in theaters, concert halls and cinemas in St. Petersburg, the number of spectators was limited to 25% of the number of seats in the halls. Also, restrictions on opening hours were introduced for cafes, restaurants and other catering establishments. From 25 to 29 December and from 4 to 10 January, they will receive visitors only until 19:00, and in the period from December 30 to January 3, they will be completely closed. The vice-governor of St. Petersburg, Oleg Ergashev, said that the city did not plan to introduce new restrictive measures on COVID-19. According to him, the situation in St. Petersburg is stabilizing, despite the difficult situation.
