Meet August’s Artists and DJs to watch. If you follow us on Instagram and/or Twitter you already know that this month’s roster was one of our most eclectic yet — including a rapper who’s just as confident with a tattoo gun as she is with a pen and a “high priestess of the Motherbeat.”

Be ready to decenter yourself and think bigger than you. Think with complete empathy for the struggles that aren’t your own. Act with heart. And for the marginalized: take time, find the enjoyment in your days. It’s hard out here! And when you’re ready to fight again, remember — no matter how much society has conditioned you to think otherwise, you have impact. Your voice has meaning. Hold your head up high.”

Rest, recuperating in between — all forms of activism too. Avoid trauma porn — it is counterproductive and mentally destabilizing! Allies, do the deep work. This is not an overnight thing. Look past empty symbols of solidarity and learn how to use your privilege to fight for equity, equality for marginalized groups and positively influence the systems that only benefit you.”
