When you hit a home run, the last thing you expect is the baseball ricocheting and hitting you as you run the bases. But that’s what happened to Giancarlo Stanton on Saturday vs. the Red Sox.
The first-year Yankee knocked it over the Green Monster so the baseball had no business being back near the mound. The fan who caught it had other plans. Rather than lightly tossing the ball onto left field to voice his displeasure over the New York run, he wound up and hurled that thing right at second base.
Giancarlo was there! And it hit him. Much to the chagrin of the fan though, that doesn’t count as an out so Stanton quickly did a double take and continued running the bases. Hopefully the fan wasn’t actually aiming to hit Giancarlo, but that’s what happened.
I know the regular season is about to end but this Bostonian has an arm. Maybe the Red Sox should ask him if he’s interested in a minor league deal. If he could throw like that from the stands, imagine what he could do when he’s actually on the field. Certified Hall of Famer (okay maybe not but it’s worth a shot).
