GARETH Gates is heartbroken as his Coronation Street actress ex Faye Brookes grows close to a hunky fitness trainer.
The former Pop Idol runner-up was said to have been devastated when the pair split about two weeks ago.
But she is now being seen at events with muscle-bound Joe Davies.
A source close to the singer said: “Poor Gareth is absolutely heartbroken.
“He’s in pieces. Towards the end of their relationship, Faye started having mysterious late night gym sessions and saying she was out with new gym pals.
“About five weeks ago they had a blazing row, and Gareth confronted Faye about Joe. He felt something wasn’t right, though she insisted they were friends.”
Gareth, 35, and Faye met when they starred in Legally Blonde in 2012. And they went public with their relationship in August 2013.
They got engaged in January but earlier this month they called off the wedding.
There is no suggestion Faye, 31, was cheating on Gareth but she has since been seen out with Joe.
The source went on: “Faye and Joe have attended the launch of a new bar called Eden in Manchester together, along with loads of her friends and family — and were being openly tactile.
“And last week they spent a night together in London when Faye had a meeting with her agent and Joe had an event for Barebells protein bars.
“Just to rub salt into the wound, Faye won’t return her £30,000 engagement ring.
“It’s not the money that bothers Gareth but the principle. He feels that she has moved on — so why can’t she just be civil and decent to Gareth now?”
At Barry’s Bootcamp gym this week, Faye, who played Kate Connor in the ITV soap, was pictured happily chatting with instructor Joe.

But an onlooker said: “They clearly didn’t want to be seen together because, as soon as they realised they were drawing attention, they jumped suddenly apart.”
On Twitter, Faye denied they were an item, saying she was a member of the gym and Joe was just a friend.
She wrote: “I imagine that suggestions could be made from these pics that there is more to this. There isn’t.”
