Brandon Nimmo Rehab Hitting Final Hurdle
Brandon Nimmo‘s return is in the foreseeable future.
There is no date set in stone just yet. Early this week, we were told that Nimmo would be expected to return to New York by the end of the week. On Tuesday, we found out a bit more about his rehab plan and what that means for his return.
Per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, the Mets plan to play Nimmo for nine innings in the outfield in Tuesday night’s game, as part of his rehab assignment for Triple-A Syracuse. If all goes well, Nimmo is expected to play five more innings in Wednesday’s game. It sounds as though Nimmo will be back with the team if these next two games are successful.
In case you happened to forget, Nimmo suffered from a bulging cervical disc early in the season. He has not played with the Mets since May 21. He began his rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie on August 16 and moved to Triple-A Syracuse last week, where he has shown signs of improvement. In Sunday’s game, Nimmo went 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs.
Nimmo coming back will give the Mets some added outfield depth, which will benefit the team in the tough series ahead. Plus, we have all missed seeing that smile round the bases, haven’t we?
