THE new BBC’s drama Capture got off to an explosive start with many questions left unanswered.
We really need to know what REALLY happened to lawyer Hannah and why Shaun doesn’t remember attacking her – we take a look at what went down on the opening episode.
Four burning questions from episode one of Capture
1)Did Shaun really mean to kill a man in Afghanistan?
The Capture starts with soldier Shaun Emery having his conviction for a murder in Afghanistan overturned due to flawed video evidence.
The court finds that the video evidence was inaccurate and couldn’t be reliable.
He was therefore found not guilty of the killing.
But later, during celebration drinks, he asks his defence lawyer Hannah Roberts if she REALLY believes he didn’t kill the man in Afghanistan, and she says she doesn’t – but the way he asks makes us think he may have killed the man on purpose and NOT in self defence as he claimed.
2)Did Shaun attack Hannah?
After celebrating winning his case, Shaun and Hannah walk to the bus stop together where they flirt heavily before having a kiss – before her walking off to catch her bus.
However, even though it appears Shaun just walks off home, CCTV captures a very different story.
We then see DI Carey deployed to catch Shaun and find out where Hannah is – at first we are not sure why, but when Shaun is arrested in the middle of the night, he is shown footage of himself violently attacking Hannah.
He reacts violently towards this footage claiming he doesn’t understand how “have they done this” – meaning he thinks the footage has been doctored to show him attacking Hannah.
Does Shaun have PTSD from serving in the army? Does he really not remember attacking Hannah? Or has the footage been doctored to show him being violent?
3) Where is Hannah?
Whatever Shaun did or didn’t do to Hannah, she is still missing.
There is no trace of her since she was last seen with Shaun.
However, as he can’t remember, or is pretending not to, there is no clue as to where she is.
After obtaining Shaun’s mobile phone records, DI Carey deploys officers to search the river for a body – as this is where Shaun’s phone was last traced.
4) How long has DI Carey been sleeping with Commander Danny Hart?
During the episode we find out that DI Carey is having an affair with her former boss Commander Danny Hart behind his wife’s back.
Rachel decides to break off their relationship as she leaves his department to give herself a clean break.
Is this how she managed to ensure her promotion? And how will this affair affect her new job and her new case?
