DEMOCRATIC Senator Bobby Rush has shockingly claimed Donald Trump wants to be “the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan”.
Rush, D-Illinois, made the startling statement just before President Trump announced “Operation Legend”, his plan to send federal agents into Chicago after a spike in gun violence.
“Anytime you send a group of armed bandits, outlaws, no uniform, no name, no identification, and you just snatch up innocent people and you take them off to some unrecognized, unknown place, you know you are really terrorizing a nation,” Rush said Wednesday on SiriusXM’s The Joe Madison Show.
Rush appeared to be referencing claims by activists in Portland, Oregon, that protesters are being arrested without probable cause by federal agents acting as a “secret police”.
“And for Trump to talk about sending federal agents in Chicago, we won’t stand for it,” Congressman Rush, 73, continued.
“Trump wants to instigate a race war. He wants to have Black folks fighting White folks so he can rise up and say, ‘I’m the real Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and I’m the President. Re-elect me.’ That’s what he’s trying to do.”
President Trump has said by sending federal forces into Portland and other cities, he is only trying to bolster over-stretched local police officers.
He says a spike in gun-related violence and continued civil unrest across the US had made some cities unsafe.
But Rush claimed Trump is “trying to play to the fears, to the racial animus that exists among certain White people, and he will do everything and anything to do that, because he wants to be re-elected at all costs.”
Speaking from the White House on Wednesday, the president said he’ll soon send federal law enforcement into Chicago and other cities that are “too proud” or “too political” to ask for the help they want.

The recent movement to defund local police forces has led to a “shocking explosion of shootings, killings murders, and heinous crimes of violence”, Trump said.
He railed against the “extreme politicians” who have “relentlessly vilified” cops and who supported the Defund Police movement, which he described as an “anti-police crusade.”
Operation Legend involves sending federal law enforcement agents to help local police combat what the Department of Justice has described as a “surge” of violent crime.
Albuquerque, New Mexico and Kansas City, Kansas will also be part of the initial rollout of the program’s expansion, US Attorney General William Barr said on Wednesday.
