Resident Evil Village Strikes a Balance Between Survival Horror & Action
Resident Evil Village looks to expand on the previous game's many survival elements while also cranking the terror to an all time high.
The long awaited horror game Resident Evil Village is coming soon, and it hopes to strike a balance between the series' classic brand of survival horror and a more action-oriented gameplay approach. Resident Evil Village's hype train has only gained momentum since it was announced, as gameplay reveals show the dark but beautiful setting the new adventure takes place in.
The newest installment in the long running Capcom series is a direct sequel to 2017's Resident Evil: Biohazard. Protagonist Ethan Winters has returned to the franchise after his rough night in the Baker House. The details of Resident Evil Village's plot have stayed a mystery but what is known so far is that Ethan's latest investigation has brought him to a mysterious village in the remote mountains of Eastern Europe. Leaks have also claimed that this installment of the series is the middle entry in an already planned trilogy. This suggests that Village will not be Ethan's final outing.
Game Informer has covered every corner of Resident Evil Village in its latest issue, which was shared online by Twitter user and prominent leaker AestheticGamer. It's been revealed that Capcom's main goal with the newest game was to bring together aspects of gameplay and atmosphere from classics such as Resident Evil 4 and blend them with new elements that were brought to Resident Evil: Biohazard, such as first-person horror/action, environmental and organic puzzles throughout the world, and a heavy focus on character development. The changes that the previous game brought have helped enhance the series, and Capcom wants to further that experience while utilizing all the capabilities of current-gen hardware.
The issue goes into detail on the new verticality and size that the in-game environments will boast. Capcom has said that the environments within Resident Evil Village are some of the largest that have ever been in a Resident Evil game. The enemies within the game will also be using the new map design to their advantage, but players can also utilize their surroundings in creative ways, such as shooting a bag of flour to stun an enemy, or by using environmental cues to determine whether or not a monster is stalking them.
Capcom has also added more robust survival elements, such as the ability to craft utility items, consumables, and even weapon mods. The studio has specified that even though it has chosen to expand upon multiple features that aren't traditionally seen in the series, it believes that expanding upon these features will create a far richer experience alongside classic Resident Evil gameplay. The large map boasts multiple diverse environments, puzzles will test the player's wit and observational skills, and the enemies in the game will test their resolve. It seems like Resident Evil Village has a lot to offer; time will tell what the village has in store for Ethan Winters.
