Superman & Lois: Is That Character Really Dead? | Screen Rant
Superman & Lois has seen the death of a new character, but this could be misdirection - here's why the supposedly dead character might return.
Warning: SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 2, episode 7.
Superman & Lois season 2, episode 7 saw the unexpected death of a major new character, but this might be a case of Doomsday-like misdirection. The newest episode of Superman & Lois season 2, titled "Anti-Hero," opened with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) depowered in a red solar prison cell and imprisoned with his half-brother Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner). On the orders of General Mitch Anderson (Ian Bohen), Superman's confinement is in the aim to get him to reveal the location of his doppelgänger Bizarro, but the Man of Steel refuses.
After Superman and Tal-Rho manage to escape their confinement, they return to the latter's Fortress of Solitude to get more answers from Bizarro. It isn't long before General Anderson arrives, now wielding Kryptonian powers with his use of X-Kryptonite. In the subsequent battle, Anderson goes head-to-head with Bizarro, leaving Kal-El's alternate self seemingly dead.
Superman & Lois season 2 has delivered unexpected twists in virtually every episode, such as setting up the powers of Jonathan Kent (Jordan Elsass). The sudden demise of Bizarro, as one of Superman's most famed adversaries from the comics, certainly counts as one. However, it could be the case that Superman & Lois is diverting viewers' collective attention away from the bigger picture once again.
Bizarro's arrival was initially masked, literally in his case, with teases of Doomsday clawing to the surface of Smallville from the depths of the mines. Even after the surprise reveal of Bizarro, Superman & Lois has kept viewers guessing with the reveal of his real target, cult leader Ally Alston (Rya Kihlstedt). Bizarro has gone to great lengths to warn Superman of the danger she poses, particularly if she gets her hands on both of the alien pendants seen on the show.
After Bizarro's apparent death, "Anti-Hero" ends with exactly that happening, Anderson handing the second pendant to the duplicitous Ally. While Ally's true nature, possibly as Parasite, was always bound to be revealed on Superman & Lois, an iconic Superman villain like Bizarro being killed mid-season seems an unlikely outcome. Especially with Bizarro, being both very comic-accurate in his appearance and powers, and looking like less and less of a villain as season 2 has progressed.
The ending scene of "Anti-Hero" indicates that Anderson and Ally will be in cahoots in some way leading up to season 2's finale. Tal-Rho being freed from his imprisonment also makes his role in season 2's conclusion seem like a forgone conclusion. How Bizarro could come back into the fold is more of an open question. Ally might do so either through some unrevealed property of her two pendants together or some other means. Ally might also hope to weaponize Bizarro against the Man of Steel. This could even lay the groundwork to Superman and Bizarro teaming up after Superman frees Bizarro from her control. Whatever the case may be, Superman & Lois season 2 has gone out of its way to keep viewers guessing. A character like Bizarro, with the amount of build-up he's gotten and still cryptic glimpses into his past on Superman & Lois, seems extremely improbable to be taken out of the show so soon. This could all point to Bizarro's ostensible death having a good chance of being undone by the season finale.
New episodes of Superman & Lois are released Tuesdays on The CW.
