Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani shares her emotional response to the positive trailer reactions for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series. Alongside Vellani, the cast for the upcoming show includes Saagar Shaikh, Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur. Ms. Marvel hails from Loki and Four Weddings and a Funeral alum Bisha K. Ali with Bad Boys for Life and Batgirl duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah leading the directing team.
Ms. Marvel marks both the MCU and live-action debut of Muslim Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan and explore her origins as an Avengers and Captain Marvel superfan living in Jersey City and stumbles upon the Nega-Bands, a device granting her the ability to harness cosmic energy and create psionic constructs. Development on the series was first announced in late 2016 as Marvel began exploring ways to introduce her to the MCU with studio head Kevin Feige stating in 2018 that a project centered on the character was in the works after Captain Marvel and Vellani landing the role in late 2020. The first Ms. Marvel trailer and poster finally arrived this week and the young star leading the charge is sharing her thoughts on it.

The response to the Ms. Marvel trailer has been largely favorable amongst viewers, with many expressing excitement for Kamala's live-action debut and the teaser's upbeat tone, comic book-style editing and remix of the Weeknd's "Blinding Lights". Those who have shared mixed responses to the trailer have mostly taken issue with the changes to the titular heroine's superpowers, which stemmed from having dormant Inhuman genes that were activated with the release of Terrigen Mists in the "Inhumanity" comic storyline and have now been updated to stemming from the Nega-Bands. Vellani's fellow MCU stars have also taken to sharing their excited reactions to the Ms. Marvel trailer, with Brie Larson assuring Kamala she is a superhero and Mark Ruffalo welcoming Kamala to the MCU family.
Given Ms. Marvel marks Vellani's first acting role after directing and starring in a handful of short films, her emotional response to the positive trailer reactions is all the more touching to see. Outside of the general popularity of the MCU, Kamala Khan marks an important step forward in diversity for the franchise and superhero genre and Vellani looks to be just as eager to ensure she stays true to herself and the character as long as she portrays her. The wait for Ms. Marvel is nearing a close as the series is set to premiere on June 8.
