[Volleyball] Hawks Fall to #21 Vanguard in Straight Sets
EL CAJON, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College women's volleyball squad ran into a tough Vanguard University Lions team Saturday at the East County Salvation Army gym. The Hawks battled valiantly in the first set but ultimately lost to the visiting Lions 0-3 in straight sets (21-25, 14-25, 15-25).
San Diego Christian matched their nationally ranked opponent nearly point for point in the opening set. Early on, solid attacking from Megan Flores and Teresa Ochoa kept the Hawks even with VU. With the score knotted at 9 apiece, the Lions would win the next three points and never look back. The Hawks continued to battle and never fell behind by more than 4 points, but ultimately came up short.
After a back-and-forth beginning to the second set, the Hawks found themselves trailing by only 7-8. Vanguard would proceed to win 13 of the next 16 points, however, and cruised easily to go up 2 sets to none.
The Hawks ultimately beat themselves in the third set by committing 11 errors to Vanguard's 3. The Lions would take advantage of the SDCC miscues and cruise to a match win.
