Taipei, Taichung and Douliu: Getting to know the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup host cities

The cities of Taipei, Taichung and Douliu will host the <a href="https://www.wbsc.org/en/events/2022-iv-u-23-baseball-world-cup/home">IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup</a> from 13-23 October. Explore each city's unique landscape and character, and its affinity with baseball.

Taipei City is a modern cosmopolitan metropolis with a lovely and diversified landscape that is home to over 2.6 million people. It is located in the Taipei Basin in the northern part and it is bordered by the Xindian River on the south and the Tamsui River on the west.

The cultural kaleidoscope of the capital city pulses wherever you go. The temples dating back to dynastic times blend seamlessly with the neon street life of the modern era. The city provides a world of fascinating contrasts that mixes the modern and traditional with a dash of energy and smiles from its people.

Taipei 101, known as the Taipei World Financial Center, is the landmark and main tourist attraction. It is the first skyscraper to exceed a height of half a kilometre and was classified as the world's tallest building in 2004 until the completion of the Dubai skyscraper Burj Khalifa.

Since baseball is the most popular among spectator sports, quite a few ballparks are constructed throughout. Tianmu Baseball Stadium is a venue that hosts important matches in the region. It was built in 1999 and it is located in the Shilin District. It was also host the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup opening game between Chinese Taipei and Colombia, Group B, the Super Round and the medal games of the U-23 Baseball World Cup.

Taichung City is a special municipality and is the second most populous city on the island, with over two million residents. It is located in the Taichung Basin along the main western coastal plain and the central mountain range lies east of the city.

Taichung has a highly developed industrial and commercial base, a thriving cultural scene and beautiful scenery. Through dedicated preservation efforts, Taichung has saved many of the city's historic and more than centuries-old sites.

The National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Natural Science are the city's main attractions.

In 2013, Taichung City was awarded the status of World Baseball City by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) for its active roles in hosting numerous international tournaments.

The city's main baseball venue, the Intercontinental Stadium, located in the Beilun District, was inaugurated in 2006. The venue will host most of the games in Group A and the Placement Round of the IV WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup.

Douliu City is located in the centre of the island, approximately 70 kilometres south of Taichung. It is home to over 100,000 people and home to the Douliu Industrial Park.

The main attraction in Daoliu City is Taiping. It is a century-old street where Baroque-style buildings are lined up.

The city's baseball stadium, Dou-Liou Baseball Stadium, was inaugurated in 2005. The venue will host the rest of the games in Group A and the Placement Round.
