LaSalle Road traffic patterns to change in West Hartford
LaSalle Road in West Hartford Center will revert to two-way traffic and “head-in angled” parking after weighing input from the public and neighboring businesses, according to a release from the town.
Crews will begin repainting the street’s lines beginning Monday, the release said. The process is expected to take three days.
The town solicited public input on the future of the road, which had previously been a busy north-south artery, and found that the one-way plan and angled parking spaces that required people to back in were unpopular.
The changes are part of a broader plan to reconfigure traffic flow and pedestrian and bike routes in the center in hopes of improving safety and efficiency while supporting businesses and the increasing number of tenants as development progresses in the Center.
Angled parking on a section of Farmington Avenue will also be reconfigured to accommodate a westbound left turn lane at the intersection of LaSalle Road.
The changes will not impact expanded outdoor dining, a covid-era warm-weather invention that has become a fixture in the Center. Outdoor dining is slated to return in May.
