Harry Kane has been discussing a disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur and suggested a lack of confidence has affected the squad, but took time to reflect on his own personal achievements this year, too.
It’s been a turbulent time for Tottenham this season, both on and off the pitch. Antonio Conte left the club at the end of March, and his former assistant Cristian Stellini lasted just four games as caretaker manager before being sacked and replaced by Ryan Mason as Acting Head Coach until the end of the season.
Performances and results have been far below the standard expected of Spurs, and the North London side now find themselves in eighth place in the league going into the final game of the campaign.

Despite the poor season overall, it’s been a fantastic campaign for Kane himself, who has 30 goals to his name across all competitions this year (Transfermarkt).
Speaking to Peter Crouch for BT Sport, Kane looked back on a bittersweet season and tried to explain where things went wrong for his team.
Harry Kane said: “It’s been a tough season… from a personal point of view it’s been nice to be scoring, but overall it’s about the team and how we can improve.
“We’ve had a couple of managers over the time, and we just haven’t been able to consistently perform across the 38 games.
“It’s hard to put it down to one thing. It’s maybe a lack of confidence within the squad, a lack of belief that we are a good team, we’ve got some great players. Obviously, that will have to change for next season.”

On his own achievements, Kane added: “Records are always strange because I don’t think when you first start out… I never looked at Jimmy Greaves’ record, or Rooney’s record and thought ‘I want to beat that.’ And it’s the same with Shearer’s record.
“But it’s something I would love to achieve… It’s a few years away yet, so I try not to think about too much.”
