Keller, Gomez Alonso Fall at NCAA Singles Championships
Senior Kelly Keller and freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso represented the Razorbacks in their first appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships, falling in two hard-fought matches in the Round of 64.
ORLANDO – Senior Kelly Keller and freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso represented the Razorbacks in their first appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships, falling in two hard-fought matches in the Round of 64.
No. 56 Keller took the first set 6-1 over Michigan’s No. 53 Julia Fliegner but was unable to come back, dropping the next two sets to give Fliegner the 6-1, 2-6, 1-6 win. Keller moves to 12-15 overall this season and has gone 3-9 against nationally ranked opponents, posting a 9-12 record through the dual season.
No. 41 Gomez Alonso dropped the first set against No. 20 Irina Cantos of Ohio State, 4-6, but battled back to force a third set with a 6-2 win in the second. Gomez Alonso was unable to capitalize off winning the first two games, falling 4-6, 6-2, 2-6 to Cantos. The SEC Freshman of the Year had a successful first season as a Razorback, moving to 20-7 overall and 12-5 in the dual season.
