A 22-year-old Brit tourist is in a coma with a broken spine following a devastating buggy crash as her family desperately try to bring her home.
Ellie Horrocks, from Westhoughton, Manchester, was dashed to hospital on Monday after the horrific incident took place in Ayia Napa.
The 22-year-old is suffering from serious head injuries as well as a broken spine after her buggy overturned on the popular party island.
Due to the severity of her condition – doctors were left with no choice but to place Ellie in a medically-induced coma.
Her family are now desperately trying to get Ellie on a flight home from Cyprus after her mum Leanne said they are suffering “any parent’s worst nightmare”.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ellie’s aunt Sarah said the young woman had moved to Cyprus in May to work in a bar and “experience life”.
“She’s young, so she likes going out with her friends, she’s got loads and loads of friends, but she’s also just a very creative person,” Sarah said.
“She’s a really, really, well-loved girl.”
Sarah explained that Ellie had hired a buggy to go and see the sunset on another part of the resort before tragedy struck.
Ellie was forced to swerve the vehicle to avoid an oncoming car, when her buggy overturned – leaving her with her devastating injuries.
Leanne has flown to Cyprus to visit Ellie in Nicosia Hospital and said: “It’s awful – none of us are sleeping.
“Her condition is just so unknown at the moment. Every day, her mum gets a call off the doctor at 11am, and then they can only see Ellie for one hour.”
Leanne set up a GoFundMe page to raise the £60,000 needed to bring Ellie home via air ambulance.
And in just 24hours the family have reached a staggering £61,947 from over 3,200 donators.
The worried mum wrote: “We would really appreciate any help and financial support that you are able to give Ellie.
“Your donation will go directly towards the cost of on-going medical treatment in Cyprus and an air ambulance back to the UK.
“Any amount you can contribute will help Ellie to get the care and treatment she needs to reach a full recovery.
Ellie’s aunty said the family wanted to thank everyone who had donated so far, saying the family had been “overwhelmed by the messages of support, even from strangers”.
“All the donations and the kindness everyone has shown has just been incredible. So we want to thank them all.”
This comes after a newlywed bride died on her honeymoon in a horror golf buggy accident in June last year.
Marina Morgan, 29, and her new husband Robbie were on a dream holiday when their buggy overturned while trying to do a U-turn.
And a Brit holidaymaker was left fighting for her life after a dirt buggy ripped her arm off as it flipped during a crash in Mexico in 2019.
