Converse & Honda Japan Embrace Retro Automotive Aesthetics in Two New Sneakers
The sneaker brand's latest collaboration, released in Japan, features bold pops of color.
Converse is hitting the road, thanks to its latest brand collaboration with Honda Japan.
The sneaker brand has teamed up with Honda Japan to release new versions of its Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers, casting the staple high-top shoe in two color-blocked palettes that retail for 14,300 Japanese yen (approx. $96 USD) — as shared on Instagram on Monday. Their union notably aligns with Honda’s 75th anniversary, while also commemorating the automotive brand’s role as Japan’s main manufacturer of transportation equipment.
The first shoe’s colorway features spliced navy blue and deep red uppers, complete with stark white tongues and matching laces. For a dash of retro flair, the set is accented with a trio of embroidered Honda brand patches — including a red “HM” oval, blue Japanese script and the brand’s signature winged logo.
The second All-Star sneaker to receive a Honda Japan makeover features multicolored uppers with red, black and white paneling, complete with “Honda” lettering. Each shoe’s front panels are cast in a faintly shiny light blue tone, printed with the automotive brand’s golden wings for a sporty finish.
Despite their differing palettes, however, both pairs of All Stars still include Converse’s signature circular Chuck Taylor All-Star accents, capped toes and white rubber soles for a balanced, classic base. Both pairs are currently available fo pre-order on Converse’s Japanese website.
Converse’s collaboration with Honda Japan marks the footwear brand’s latest co-branded release in 2023. This year, the label has dropped a wide range of products, limited-edition collections and more with an array of brands, including Tamagotchi, Liverpool FC and Stüssy, among others.
