As KIM KARDASHIAN launches her £53 Skims Ultimate Nipple Bra – with built-in nipples ensuring “no matter how hot it is, you’ll always look cold” – we ask is it trashy or classy?

I’M speaking as the granddaughter of the man who invented the Laura bra, and as daughter of Norman Feltz — also known as Norman the Knicker King — who made and sold slinky lingerie. He even brought the first ever edible pants into this country — pineapple flavoured, since you ask.
So I grew up around ladies’ underwear and know exactly what a bra should do.
I come from the era when bras were meant to lift you, and separate you. Bras were vaguely conical, although not quite Madonna-esque, creating two very separate bosoms.
The most important thing about a bra is that it hints at promise of things to come.
It should accentuate your silhouette, suggesting the presence of nipples. What it definitely doesn’t do is act as an Ordnance Survey map pointing out the exact location, depth and parameters of your nipples.

That’s why I find this Skims bra such a fraud.
It could be that you’ve got small and diminutive nipples and decide to wear this bra to give your confidence a boost.
But when it comes to disrobing and you take off this bra, that’s popping with enormous, strawberry-sized nipples only to reveal a virtually flat chest.
It makes it all desperately sad and in fact, it takes the potential disappointment of a chicken fillet to a whole different level of disappointment.
Kim’s bra is, in every way, a really bad idea. It’s just crude, gross and likely to be very deceptive.
Ultimately, it is reducing women to blow-up sex dolls and making us appear permanently aroused, erect and sexually ready — which we are not.
It’s not that I am prudish, it’s just a pretty vulgar, unnecessary, misleading and unpleasant idea.
We are just one step away from panties that have an arrow pointing to the vagina.
For some people, this might be fine, but for the vast majority it would be considered an acquired taste and way beyond the pale.
I also hope that Kim’s bra doesn’t persuade young girls that, unless you have giant, jutting nipples you are somehow lacking and inadequate and men won’t fancy you.
What’s the next step? Nipple implants if our nipples are deemed disappointing?
This bra costs around £50 — but I would pay that price NOT to have to wear it.

WHEN I saw Kim Kardashian’s hilarious video drop, I smiled. Finally, someone has created the ultimate Wonderbra.
Critics say it’s a crime against fashion — a feminist’s worst nightmare — but they’re missing the point, as it were.
Kim K is the ultimate feminist, who’s normalising the nipple — something still strangely taboo in Western society.
From the beginning of time, the nipple has represented freedom and fertility.
Fast-forward to medieval times and we became prudes. Nipples were banished, locked away beneath layers of lace and corsets, which stayed in fashion for hundreds of years.
But the bikini’s arrival in the 1940s changed all that and then Fifties sex symbol Marilyn Monroe made pointy “bullet bras” iconic.
Growing up, I was obsessed with my breasts. I couldn’t get over how my nipples went hard and soft depending on the temperature. It was mind-blowing.

I later learnt that I felt way sexier when I was smuggling peanuts — something Miranda discovers in SATC.
In the scene, Samantha whips out a pair of rubber nips and dares Miranda to pop them in her bra.
As Miranda parades her new, perky boobs around the bar she revels in the attention — prompting Samantha to say: ‘OK, I want my nipples back.’
Perhaps that’s where Kim got her inspiration from — or the fact that the bras have a practical use, too. She is receiving praise from breast cancer charities who believe the bras will help brave women who have undergone mastectomies regain their confidence.
Since dropping three days ago, the bras have sold out in every shade bar black — proving there is a real market for a product like this.
Why? Because most women prefer the look of their boobs when they’re hard — and some will even go to extreme lengths to get it.
One of my mates had her nipples pierced to help keep them erect and another uses nipple clamps an hour before sex so they stay harder for longer.
I admire their dedication but both sound a bit painful to me. I’d much rather pop on a comfy faux nipple number and be done with it.
Some may say it’s cheating, but who cares? Aren’t we always cheating with make-up, Botox and Spanx, or should I say Skims.
Kim is a genius who understands what women all over the world want and created a product that will be in many women’s top drawer. After years of protest, Kim has finally freed the nipple.
