The existential threat posed by a climate-denying president | READER COMMENTARY
Returning a climate denier to the White House could prove disastrous for the world.
“It’s the economy, stupid” was the mantra of James Carville when he first guided Bill Clinton to the presidency in 1992. In 2024, 32 years later, thoughtful voters who know that a warming planet is a real existential threat to humanity might evoke the mantra: “It’s the climate, stupid.” If less-than-thoughtful voters go ahead and reelect the climate-change-denying former president, they will give stupidity full “rain” (“The climate can’t afford another Trump presidency,” The Atlantic, Dec. 4, 2023).
