Alison Hammond reveals brand new show she’s filming with son – and it’s worlds away from This Morning
THIS Morning presenter Alison Hammond is filming a brand new travel show with her son Aidan.
Alison, 49, is filming a new series that’s worlds away from her breakfast show, and she’s teaming up with her son, Aidan, 19, for it.
The mother and son duo are heading to America
While speaking exclusively to The Sun’s TV Magazine, Alison teased a few details of their upcoming travel show, which she said will be set in America.
The Great British Bake Off host revealed they will be jetting off in August.
“The only reason I said yes to that was so I could spend time with my son. It’s like a win/win. He really wanted to do it so I was like: ‘Let’s do it together!’” Alison revealed.
Teasing details about their trip, she said: “We’re going to do parts of America that we’ve never been to before, so it’s kind of like a road trip.
“You’re just going to have to wait and see. It’s going to be really good fun.”
When asked if Aidan was just as excited about the upcoming adventure as his mum, she responded: “Yeah, he’s excited. He’s been travelling with me his whole life and even now I’ll say: ‘Do you still want to go on holiday with me?’ And he’s like: ‘Yeah! They’re the best holidays ever.’ He absolutely loves travelling with his mum.”
But, while Aidan is excited to film the travel show, he has no interest in becoming a TV presenter like his mum.
Alison explained: “He’s really into DJ’ing, so he’s more into the DJ’ing side of things and becoming a real respected DJ in his own right, not a celebrity DJ.”
The 19-year-old is DJ’ing his first ever festival this summer.
Alison’s work is keeping her busy
This upcoming travel show is just one part of Alison’s busy career. Alongside presenting This Morning and GBBO, she’s just taken over as the new host of For the Love of Dogs.
Alison has replaced the late Paul O’Grady after he died last year.
She told The Sun it was an honour to be asked to continue his legacy on the show.
Alison said: “I was asked directly if I wanted to do it and obviously, it’s flattering for someone to ask me to do that show when such a legend was doing it beforehand and did such a wonderful job. It’s daunting in one aspect, but also, my job is a TV presenter ultimately and that’s what I do.
“I knew that I would bring my own personality to the table,” she added, before explaining: “The reason why I did was because of Battersea and the charity, and the fact that they still need that continued support from everybody in order to make money, in order to take care of these wonderful dogs.”
Unfortunately, Alison was met with a barrage of criticism after she was announced as the new host of the show, and again last night when the first episode aired on ITV.
She admitted this surprised her at first. “I was actually surprised with how much I got for doing the show. I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved and people were saying: ‘How can she do Love Of Dogs when she doesn’t have a dog? How does she love dogs when she doesn’t have a dog?’
“It’s like saying: ‘How can you love children when you haven’t got kids?’ It’s such a flawed argument for me and all I would say is: ‘If you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it.’ That’s what I would say to those trolls: ‘Don’t watch it then. If you don’t want to help Battersea, don’t watch it. That’s fine.’”
Alison isn’t letting any negativity stop her from doing her job.
“Trolls will be trolls and I’ll still do what I do best, which is TV presenting and you’ll see for yourself. I think it’s authentic and I loved doing it,” she said.
Alison concluded: “Trolls are trolls. It says more about them than it does me, really. I would never troll anybody. Even if I thought it, I wouldn’t go online and put it down. If you’re going to breed negativity, that’s going to come right back at you, so enjoy that.”
