New York evened the series with Chicago with a 4-2 triumph on Tuesday evening at Citi Field. The Mets’ bullpen continued its impressive form, combining for four innings of work and allowing just one hit. New York finishes the month of April with a winning record (15-14) and a Citi Field record with 44,269 hot dogs sold on Dollar Dog night.
Sean Manaea got the start for New York and allowed one run on three hits over five innings pitched. He walked four and had three strikeouts.
The Mets struck first, picking up a run in the home half of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Pete Alonso that scored Lindor, who reached via a single, stole second, and advanced to third on an error by Cubs’ first baseman Patrick Wisdom. It was Alonso’s fifteenth RBI this year.

Chicago quickly responded with a sacrifice fly of their own, by Miguel Amaya, tying the game after Manaea faced early trouble in the second inning, issuing two walks and allowing a single.
Sean Reid-Foley tossed a scoreless inning in relief, working around a leadoff walk in the sixth and adding a strikeout. He earned the win.
The Mets surged ahead 4-1 thanks to a clutch three-run homer by DJ Stewart. The charge started with J.D. Martinez reaching base on a throwing error, followed by Tyrone Taylor‘s single setting the stage for Stewart’s decisive shot to right field that pushed the Mets into the lead.
Reed Garrett pitched the seventh and walked one, adding a strikeout. The reliever has now thrown 15 2/3 innings this season and has allowed just one earned run (0.57 ERA) with 28 strikeouts.
Adam Ottavino tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning with one strikeout.
Jorge López replaced Ottavino in the ninth and gave up a run to cut the Mets lead in half, on a groundout that scored Mike Tauchman, who hit a leadoff double. But the Cubs could not rally, and López got a strikeout to end the evening and solidify the win. He picked up his second save of the season.

DJ Stewart is Tuesday’s player of the game. His go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning was his fourth of the year. Stewart is now slashing .208/.377/.472 on the season.
ON DECK
Jose Buttó (0-1, 2.86) will take the mound for New York on Wednesday evening as the Mets look to take the series in the third game of four Chicago. The Cubs starter will be Shōta Imanaga (4-0, 0.98). SNY will air the game at 7:10 p.m. ET.
