‘It was truly awful’ wedding guests say after bride announces how much everyone gave her at the RECEPTION party
WEDDINGS are meant to be about love, but often they bring out the worst in people.
Rather than counting her blessings, one bride forced her guests to reveal how much they’d spent on the happy couple – at the wedding reception.
The bride didn’t seem to understand that it is the thought that counts[/caption] After the wedding, the bridezilla spent the entire evening complaining[/caption]Despite being part of the wedding party, the maid of honour was so anxious that she lied about her gift.
Recalling the toe-curling experience, she later admitted on Reddit that she should have never agreed to be in the wedding but she was ‘young, shy and a pushover’.
Unlike other bridesmaids, she wasn’t tasked with planning the hen do and instead, had to buy a cake for the lavish ceremony.
If that weren’t bad enough, tradition dictated that she also give a generous gift of cash to the newlyweds on their big day.
With the anonymous user struggling with money and trying to move for college, she was already feeling the pressure.
Then came the bachelorette party.
He wasn’t cheap, a best man is supposed to pay the priest for the ceremony and he couldn’t pay in full.”
Annoymous
While it is usually the thought that counts, the bride didn’t agree and complained about her guests in front of the maid of honour.
She later explained in a lengthy post: “The bride complained how the best man told them that he won’t be able to give them a big amount of money as a gift, because times were tough for him.
“She had the audacity to complain and said: ‘Can you imagine? He has a great job and he is being so cheap.’
“He wasn’t cheap, a best man is supposed to pay the priest for the ceremony and he couldn’t pay in full.”
The maid of honour added: “I knew I could only give her maybe like a half of what the best man could give.”
Now dreading the big day, the Reddit user knew she would have to hand over the cash-filled envelope to the bride and groom.
However, the happy couple decided to add an extra step to the tradition with a wedding coordinator reading out the amount people gave during the reception.
Instead of being honest about what she was giving, the put-upon bridesmaid decided to lie and exaggerate how much she gave.
The Redditor confessed: “The couple will know when they open it, but I just didn’t want people to give me side eyes at the wedding.
“[Throughout] the rest of the evening she complained that people didn’t give her [the amount of] money she was expecting.”
Needless to say, the maid of honour left shortly after and they didn’t keep in touch following the big day.
The Reddit post was orginally shared by the maid of honour[/caption] She recalled how the bride-to-be had even moaned about the best man ‘being cheap’[/caption]Having shared her story on the internet, she later described the event as ‘truly awful’ in the comments.
Others couldn’t believe the bride was so thoughtless, with another writing: “She sounds absolutely insufferable. Big yikes”
A third then added: “I am so sorry you had to go through that, I hate those customs and made sure none of them were included in my wedding.
“Announcing how much money each guest gave is the tackiest thing ever.”
