Quin Snyder Update - On The Move Again?
Seems unlikely but you never really know.
Quin Snyder’s first season in Atlanta ended with a loss to Chicago in a play-in game. The Hawks finished 36-46 and in third place in the Southeast.
Atlanta has work to do so we don’t think anyone was particularly surprised or upset about the way things worked out, particularly since Snyder took over in February.
The Hawks are probably going to have to make some changes and their best chip is Trae Young and trade rumors have swirled around him for months. Some of them tie him to L.A. as the Lakers really need some help for LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Young has been a very good player for Atlanta but he hasn’t gotten them over the hump. He also needs the ball a lot which obviously limits how much other players get it. You can imagine how a trade might help both sides, but what would Atlanta get back and how quickly?
It’s an interesting question but here’s another: what are the odds that Snyder ends up in L.A. instead? This assumes that Darvin Ham doesn't return of course.
According to Las Vegas oddsmakers, they’re actually not too bad: Snyder is seen as the third most likely candidate behind Phil Handy, currently a Lakers assistant, and Juwan Howard, who was recently fired by Michigan.
To us it doesn't really make sense. With or without Young, Atlanta’s future is brighter right now. They would still have De’Andre Hunter, Jalen Johnson and Dejounte Murray. Clint Capela is also solid and AJ Griffin is still maturing.
LeBron James is nearly 40 and A.D. is injury prone. The Lakers really don’t have much trade bait other than draft picks. Atlanta’s future, from here anyway, looks pretty bright.
