“I feel like a mug for falling for her,” says emotional Married At First Sight star after heartbreaking split
MARRIED At First Sight star Jordan Gayle has opened up for the first time about his split from Erica Roberts, where he expressed regret, for falling as hard as he did.
After meeting last year on MAFS UK, the couple have now called time on their union after months of toxic rows.
Now reflecting on their time together, Jordan, 27, says he feels foolish for getting involved. He says: “I feel like a mug for falling as hard as I did. It’s weird because I’ve not got emotional about it for a long time because I think I’ve been holding it back a bit.’
The reality star insists that there was no fame-hungry agenda that led him to participate in the show. “ I didn’t care about any of the fame or the opportunities or any of the money, so losing the relationship was like the be all and end-all for me.”
And speaking on The Superhero Finder podcast, Jordan also revealed that he genuinely believed that he’d married for love and their romance had nothing to do with the TV show.
He said: “I’ve never told this to anyone, without digging too many people out.. the camera people were like ‘Do you want us to take the cameras away, you don’t have to film. That’s why I’ve been so heartbroken, because I thought I was going to be with this person forever.”
The couple split up earlier this year just two months after they’d revealed plans to move in together having decided to settle in Manchester back in December.
But in February of this year, Erica, 25, was said to have called time on their romance, after feeling torn apart by their long distance relationship with Jordan based in Sheffield and her in Edinburgh.
Jordan said at the time: “There is no one to blame, the way our lifestyle was, travelling out of a suitcase and not having a settled home and base.
But a source said that their arguments had become too volatile: “It was Erica that ended her marriage with Jordan… she did everything possible to make it work but sadly they struggled and in the end, she had no choice but to give up.”
“Jordan can be hotheaded and Erica’s looking for someone who’s a bit more laidback so in the end it was a constant personality clash.
“Of course, both parties are upset and didn’t want this to be how their story ended but also in the long-term, it’s better for them both to move on.”
Jordan was caught up in one of the biggest feuds of the last series when Luke Worley punched him before being axed from the show.
Erica later opened up about the frightening moment, saying: “ As soon as it happened, my initial reaction was I was in complete and utter shock – I couldn’t actually believe it had just happened.
