Tesco shopper shares hack to get beauty staples for a fraction of the cost – you just need to look in a different aisle
EVERY penny counts when it comes to supermarket shopping these days, so when one woman discovered a trick to get a beauty staples for even less, people were all ears.
Cotton pads, buds and balls are used for all kinds of different things, and most makeup lovers will have a steady supply of them all.
But Lynn, who posts on social media as Lynnsaves, revealed a little known trick to get the same products for less – you just have to look in a different aisle.
Taking to TikTok Lynn explained: “A big mistake people make when they go to the supermarket to buy beauty products is they go straight to the beauty section.”
She urged shoppers to “stop doing that” and instead walk over to the baby section, where you can find the same cotton pads, cotton buds and cotton balls for less.
To prove her point, Lynn showed that a pack of 50 cotton pads from the beauty section in Tesco will set you back £1.85.
“But if you go to the baby section the exact same amount, 50 cotton pads, costs you £1.50,” she said.
That’s a saving of 70p, which might not seem like a lot but can definitely add up.
The same goes for cotton balls, which Lynn noted were priced at £1.55 for 100 in the beauty section, but the same amount from the baby section are 5p less at £1.50.
You can also pick up a box of 200 cotton buds for 60p in Tesco’s beauty section, but for just 75p you can buy a box of 300 from the baby section – who knew?
Fellow shoppers were stunned by the price difference and thanked Lynn for the top tip, and some even shared some other tricks to get similar products for less.
One said: “Yep, always check the baby section and for things like shaving gel, check the men’s section.”
But some shoppers noted that in other stores the higher price was usually of the beauty products.
“It’s the other way around in Boots,” one said, “baby cotton pads are more expensive than the beauty ones.”
“Great to know, but if there was only one pack left I’d leave it for a parent,” another wrote.
Meanwhile, someone else said they’d been using the trick for ages.
They commented: “I’ve been doing this for years, there’s also different seeds and nuts around the shop, you’ll usually find them cheaper with the baking ingredients.”
“NO the secret is out, now they’ll up the price,” someone else chimed in.

What can I get with Tesco Clubcard?
TESCO'S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop.
These points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food at the supermarket, or discounts at other places like restaurants and days out.
Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your Clubcard.
Drivers using the loyalty card get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.
One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 money-off voucher, for example.
You can double their worth when you swap them for discounts with “reward partners”.
For example, £12 worth of vouchers can be swapped for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+.
Or you can swap 50p worth of points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs.
Where you can spend them changes regularly, and you can check on the Tesco website what’s available now.
Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have the loyalty card.
The discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you’ll pay a higher price.
These Clubcard prices are usually labelled on shelves, along with the non-member price.
But it’s worth noting that just because it’s discounted doesn’t necessarily make it the cheapest around, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.
