Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker heads to the IR with left knee injury
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker will miss three to four weeks with a left knee injury.
Rapoport, via X, said that Butker is expected to have surgery to trim his left meniscus.
On the bright side, Butker will be back for the home stretch of the regular season and the playoffs.
There is currently no second, third or fourth-string kicker listed on the Chiefs' roster. However, according to ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are signing kicker Spencer Shrader off the Jets' practice squad.
"That’s too bad. I mean, he’s pretty vital to our offense, especially in those clutch moments," said Chiefs fan Jason Flanigan. "I don’t know who’s gonna take his place but I hope he can do the job for us. We got a lot of good guys on the bench, I mean, that’s been proven with all the injuries that’s been happening this season. But I think we’ll be good."
"It's huge. It's huge news. Obviously. I know a kicker doesn't like their name, doesn't ring bells as much, but Harrison Bunkers does. He's been a phenomenal kicker," said WIVB Buffalo Sports Reporter Carl Jones. "His experience being at Highmark Stadium is something that is a huge advantage for him. In particular"
Chiefs' safety Justin Reid has also proved he can fill in at kicker at times.
