I’m the ‘stingiest parent alive’ for only spending £80 on Xmas pressies for my 3 kids – but look how much I’ve got them
A MUM has hit back at people calling her “stingy” after spending just £80 on Christmas presents for her three kids.
Sadie took to TikTok to share her budget-friendly tips for a frugal Christmas, after spending around £26 on each of her children.
But that doesn’t mean they won’t be getting what they want this year, as she’s managed to complete their Christmas lists – on which they had five gifts each.
“How much are we spending on our kids this Christmas?” Sadie began her video.
“I’d love to know because if it is £100 then you are stingy. I must be the stingiest parent alive because I’ve spent a total of about £26 on each child.
“My Christmas shopping this year has come to £80 and I’m done. I’m done!”
Sadie then went on to show the presents she’d picked up, and where she’d nabbed them from.
First up, a skateboard for her son, which set her back just a quid, followed by some rollerblades she picked up for £8.
She also got some Frozen dolls to add to a collection of toys she was doing from the beloved films.
Sadie got a karaoke machine, a Lego set and box of toy cars from TikTok shop.
And she said of the cars: “To be fair I expected it to be bigger, but it’s not bad to use with his Hot Wheels sets.”
She picked up a Lego book that her son had been “nagging” her for, for just a pound, and a Peppa Pig puzzle and rollerblades for her daughter.
Sadie concluded the haul with an e-reader, which she got off TikTok shop for Christmas but said she’d be “giving it early”.
“I’m waiting for a lot more deliveries to arrive, but everything I’ve bought has been off Vinted or TikTok shop,” she said.
In the caption for the video, Sadie added: “Is £100 per child stingey or smart at Christmas?
“This is what I’ve got so far for the kids and I’ve got everything off their list it’s come to a total of £80.
“I’ll probably add a few bits if I see anything they really need or might like but again Christmas has been done successfully on a budget thanks to Vinted and TikTok shop.”
The comments section was quickly filled with people weighing in, as one wrote: “My fave memories of Xmas was waking up to sofa full of presents.
“They could have been £1 each.. judge me all you want.. but I couldn’t give my daughter just 5 presents.”
“I only had one child so I could give him the best – he gets £500 minimum,” another added.
“Anything between 1k & 1.5k for one child,” a third commented.
“I save all year. If I had more children that budget would be split.
“I just can’t help myself and love to splurge at Christmas!”
“£400 each,” someone else revealed.
“Rule is no gadgets, Santa is told no because mummy wants to buy them for their birthdays.
“It stops the ‘Santa bought me an Xbox’ when other kids might not get the same.”
“About £2000 – simply because he eleven and his tracksuit cost £180 alone never mind trainers £190.
“Then u got his main which was £400!
“When they get older the presents get smaller, but more expensive.”
“£700 each because I never want my kids to go to school and think why didn’t I get what my friends did, doesn’t my mum care as much as my friend’s mum?” another aruged.
” I’m going to make sure my babies NEVER feel that.”
To which Sadie replied: “I actually think that’s problematic, love isn’t shown by presents and that should be taught”.
However, other parents were more in agreement with Sadie’s approach to the festive holiday.
“£50 each. I have 4 kids in total,” one wrote.
“I refuse to buy anymore plastic tat that ends up in the bin by January.
“My kids are happy and healthy and appreciate all their presents”.
“Spend what you can afford, what you spend on your child’s birthday and Christmas should never be influenced by other people,” another said.
“Don’t get into debt just to impress everyone else!”
“I am a hospice nurse, and the one thing I’ve learnt is that money does not give you a good Christmas,” someone else wrote.
“Having those around you that you love is what makes Christmas.”
