Travis Kelce Surprised Taylor Swift With a Huge Party
Remember when I said I was disappointed that Travis Kelce didn’t go all out for Taylor Swift’s 35th birthday? I take it back. On Thursday, “Page Six” reported that the Kansas City Chiefs player threw his girlfriend an elaborate surprise party after all — though it was more of a multipurpose Eras tour wrap event than a strict birthday celebration. “When she thought she was going to a small, quiet dinner but it was actually a giant surprise party with her friends and family, props included ????,” Swift’s friend Ashley Avignone wrote on Instagram alongside a photo dump from the Kansas City soirée. All right, fine, that’s cute.
Per “Page Six,” guests were instructed to dress up as one of Swift’s many different eras, with Brittany and Patrick Mahomes opting for a literal interpretation of the theme and dressing as Tayvis. As for Kelce, the tight end put on the tux and 22 top hat he wore during his onstage cameo at Swift’s London tour stop earlier this year. The Haim sisters were also in attendance, as was Donna Kelce, who wore a “Maroon”-themed ensemble. (The 72-year-old was apparently a fixture on the dance floor, per footage from Travis’s childhood best friend, Aric Jones.)
And then there were the details. Friendship bracelets galore, Red-appropriate heart-shaped sunglasses, a reference to the elevator buttons from the “Bejeweled” music video, and a life-size replica of the janitorial cart Swift hid in before each performance. Reputation-era golden snake arm cuffs were placed on tables throughout the venue. At one point, while making a toast, Kelce presented his 22 hat to Swift, paying homage to the singer’s Eras tour ritual.
Credit where credit is due: If the photos are any indication, it looks like Kelce went above and beyond, and Swift looked giddy all evening. You don’t have to be a Swiftie to appreciate a grown woman getting her happily ever after.
