Probe continues into deaths of Altadena couple described as ‘the best neighbors’
An investigation continued Tuesday, Dec. 24, into the deaths of an Altadena couple found shot in their home last week.
The medical examiner’s office identified them as 62-year-old Wendell Harmon and 58-year-old Beverly Harmon. Autopsies have been scheduled for both.
A neighbor called authorities Friday to check on the couple, according to sheriff’s Lt. Chris Oakley. Deputies discovered the bodies inside the house on the 700 block of West Sacramento Street shortly after 8 p.m. Officials have provided few details to what may have occurred.
On Tuesday, one of the couple’s neighbors described them as “incredibly nice” and “the best neighbors.” She declined to give her name, citing the ongoing investigation.
“In 33 years of living here, nothing like this has happened,” she said. “We’re still in shock and we’re still walking on eggshells.”
Another neighbor also declined to talk about what may have happened due to the investigation. Other neighbors contacted by a reporter Tuesday didn’t know what occurred.
Flowers and votive candles have been left on the small porch outside the front door of the Harmons’ one-story home, and the front window has been boarded up. “Keep Out” signs were on a support beam and the front door while a gate leading to the garage and backyard had “No trespassing” signs.
