Iran executes Afghan citizen in Lorestan
The human rights organization Hengaw has reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran has executed an Afghan citizen in the Lorestan province of the country.
In a report published on Sunday, December 30, Hengaw stated that the execution of this Afghan citizen took place in the central prison of Aligudarz in Lorestan province.
According to the report, the Afghan citizen was identified as Jalal Stanikzai, who had been arrested four years ago on charges of “premeditated murder.”
This execution is part of a troubling trend in Iran, where the number of executions, including those of Afghan citizens, has significantly increased in recent months.
Earlier, the Iran Human Rights Defenders Group reported the execution of ten prisoners, including two Afghan citizens, in the Jiroft prison, on charges related to drug crimes.
Recently, the “Execution Information Center” reported that Iran leads the world in executions, with 882 executions recorded in 2024 alone.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Organization, dozens of people, including 49 Afghan citizens, have been executed in the past ten months in the country’s prisons.
The rising number of executions in Iran, especially involving Afghan citizens, has drawn widespread international condemnation. Human rights organizations continue to call for an immediate halt to the death penalty in Iran, urging the government to abide by international human rights standards.
As global pressure mounts, the Iranian authorities face increasing criticism for their handling of executions. The continued executions, particularly those involving foreign nationals, raise concerns about the country’s commitment to human rights and its international reputation.
