From coconut puddings to Tex-Mex bites – we put new vegan products to the test
AROUND 25million people globally could take part in Veganuary this month.
And with lots of new vegan products out there, this year could be easier than ever.
Studies have found a vegan diet can lead to weight loss, but also reduce your risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease and cancer.
Maybe it’s time to give it a go?
Here, I put some of the latest vegan products to the test . . .
COCONUT PUDDINGS
GOING vegan doesn’t mean going without treats.
The Coconut Collab has launched some new plant-based desserts.
These White Choc Pots are deliciously creamy, with white chocolate ganache and lovely coconut.
Considering they don’t contain any dairy, they are surprisingly delicious and not too bad for your waistline either, at just 115kcal, 8.3g fat and 7.2g sugar per 45g pot, .
They might not be suitable for those with nut allergies though, as they are produced in a factory that handles nuts. £2.95 for four, tesco.co.uk
GIVE PROTEIN LEVELS A PICK-ME-UP
KEEPING protein levels up can be tricky if you don’t eat meat, so you may want to consider a protein powder.
I tried Myvegan’s Impact Vegan Protein, which comes in a variety of flavours including chocolate, white chocolate raspberry and chocolate salted caramel.
All were delicious, though I did find the strawberry a bit weak and grainy.
It’s made from pea and fava beans and delivers around 21g protein per 30g serving, plus 108kcal, 0.8g fat and 0g sugar.
You can mix it with shakes, water or plant milk or add to cereal, pancakes, yoghurts and more.
I found using this for a week really boosted my energy, especially on the days I exercised.

TEX-MEX BITES
VIVERA, a firm well-known for creating a plant-based salmon fillet, has now launched Tex Mex Bites, ideal for a filling mid-week dinner.
These bites combine veggies, pulses and grains for a wholesome protein-rich snack, lunch or dinner.
Herbs and spices give them real flavour, perfect for adding to tortillas.
They were easy to cook too – just pop in the air fryer for four minutes or in the oven for five and you’re good to go.
Rich in protein with 23g per pack, they’re also a good source of fibre, with added iron and vitamin B12.
They are also low in saturated fat and calories, with just 200kcal, 0.8g saturates, 2.5g sugar and 1.0g salt per half a pack.
