LAPD arrest ‘arsonist’ accused of purposely starting California wildfires

At least 10 people have been killed and countless more injured by the deadly wildfires still ravaging Los Angeles, with authorities warning the number of casulties will likely climb much higher.

A new fire, named the Kenneth fire, sparked north of the Palisades fire on Thursday afternoon and quickly ballooned to 960 acres. Authorities believe it may have been started by an arsonist, and a suspect has been apprehended by the LAPD.

Progress has been made on the Sunset Fire which threatened to burn down iconic LA landmarks such as the Hollywood Bowl, although the main blaze, the Palisades fire, currently stands at a mere 6% containment.

The causes of all of the wildfires are under investigation, but thousands of buildings have been destroyed and the economic damage caused by the fires is estimated to have exceeded $150 billion.

Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said the fire-ravaged neighborhoods in west L.A. ‘look like a bomb was dropped in them.’. Efforts to contain them continue for a third day.
