Four Spurs players who could make their debuts against Tamworth
Tottenham take on Tamworth FC in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. The match presents an opportunity for some of Spurs’ promising youth players to get their first senior minutes.
Tamworth match is a rare occasion where Spurs could rotate
The FA Cup has long been a tournament of opportunity. It provides the chance for lower-league sides to topple mighty Premier League opponents and often is a platform for young players to experience their first senior minutes.
Alfie Devine set two records during the FA Cup 3rd Round back in 2021. He became Tottenam’s youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer in Spurs’ fixture against Marine.
Spurs are once again facing non-league opposition in their trip to Tamworth. Tottenham’s squad depth remains thin, but Ange Postecoglou will not want to underestimate his opponents and spurn an opportunity to progress in the cup.
That being said, there is an opportunity for some of Tottenham’s most promising youth players who are currently on the edge of the first team to make their long-awaited first-team debuts.
Min-hyeok Yang could debut for Spurs
Min-hyeok Yang’s arrival at Spurs has been long awaited. His transfer to Tottenham from Gangwon FC was announced back in the summer and he has now joined up with the squad after the conclusion of the K-League season.
Postecoglou pleaded patience regarding Yang’s inclusion in the first team, noting that the jump to English football was not insignificant. However, With few other options to Brennan Johnson on the right, Yang may get a chance to show why he was brought to Spurs.
Callum Olusesi has been on the Spurs bench
Callum Olusesi is an attack-minded midfielder who has in recent games filled out places on the bench during Tottenham’s injury crisis. Dejan Kulusevski has been used relentlessly and is in desperate need of a rest. James Maddison may likely start the match, but Olusesi could be given a chance to come on later in the game if Spurs can establish control.
Tyrese Hall
Tyrese Hall was one of the standout performers in Tottenham’s U21 team last season. A loan move did not materialise and he has remained at the academy for the current season. With Rodrigo Bentancur unavailable due to concussion protocols, Hall may be utilised as some additional depth in midfield to ensure Yves Bissouma is not overused in Bentancur’s absence.
Maxwell McKnight
Maxwell McKnight is the U21 team’s primary right-back. McKnight was seen training with the first team recently, likely in light of the ongoing injury and illness issues in the squad.
With Archie Gray and Djed Spence being utilised elsewhere in the starting XI, Pedro Porro’s natural rotation options are unavailable. McKnight or perhaps even Leo Black (academy midfielder and right-back) could be given some minutes to ensure Porro is not the next name on the injury list.
Shoutouts for Alfie Dorrington and Will Lankshear
Okay, technically not ‘5’ players and these two have already made their debuts. Will Lankshear has played 126 minutes in the Europa League this season and could hand Dominic Solanke some well-earned rest.
Alfie Dorrington has only played 13 minutes of senior football, making his debut in Tottenham’s 5-0 win against Southampton. If not for an injury at the end of last season, Dorrington’s development may have been further ahead already.
With Van de Ven, Romero and Davies unavailable until the end of January, Dorrington could provide either Gray or Radu Dragusin with some urgent respite considering Spurs have two games a week scheduled for the remainder of the month.
