First glimpse at UK’s biggest EV ‘superhub’ near major motorway with ‘ultra-rapid’ chargers boosting 44 cars at once
BRITAIN’S largest and most advanced EV charging station has officially opened its doors.
The InstaVolt Superhub, located near the A34 and junction 9 of the M3, features 44 charging points that promise to have your electric motor back up to full power in just 20 minutes.
The massive new facility, which aims to provide ‘industry-leading’ reliability, champions ‘ultra-rapid’ chargers that are capable of delivering power at speeds up to 160kW.
This makes it one of the fastest charging stations in the entire country.
The Superbhub, which is open 24/7 and located on a prime stretch of motorway, is aimed at long-distance drivers, commuters, and local EV owners.
It includes a Starbucks cafe, children’s play park, dog-walking area, and 24/7 toilet facilities.
However, the chargers cost users 85p per kilowatt hour – compared to between just 10p and 15p per kilowatt hour to charge at home.
Off-peak charging rates, between 9pm to 7am, do drop to a more affordable 54p per kWh.
The station also has an on-site solar farm with 870 solar panels harnessing renewable energy to power the chargers.
There’s also a cutting-edge battery storage system – ensuring maximum efficiency.
InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane said: “This isn’t just a charging hub, it’s a flagship site.
“We are redefining what EV drivers can expect when they charge, seamless, ultra-rapid, and future-proofed charging that makes the switch to electric easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before.”
For example, the Kia EV6 – one of the nation’s favourite electric cars – or the Polestar 3 can expect to charge from 10% to 80% battery capacity in just 20 minutes with one of the site’s chargers.
This comes as China has launched a super quick EV rival to Tesla that charges twice as fast.
The brand spanking new motor can be on the roads for 250 miles with a five-minute charge, allowing it to compete with diesel and petrol cars in terms of refueling speed.
BYD has unveiled its Han L sedan and Tang L SUV models which the top boss hopes will tackle “charging anxiety” among drivers.
Founder Wang Chuanfu said: “In order to completely solve users’ charging anxiety, our goal is to make the charging time of electric vehicles as short as the refuelling time of ICE vehicles.
“This is the first time in the industry that the unit of megawatt has been achieved on charging power.”
The new motors could receive up to an astonishing 1,000 kilowatts (kW) of power compared to Tesla models which receive just 500kW.
