Flash floods in Acadia Parish force residents to evacuate due to heavy rain

CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) -- Parts of Acadia Parish experienced yet another day of flash flooding. Some residents say they were forced to evacuate their homes due to the high water.
This comes after Acadia Parish experienced previous heavy rainfall on Saturday, and now today. Radar estimates show around 7 to 8 inches of rain has fallen in the area, with additional rainfall amounts today.
News 10 traveled to Standard Mill Road in Crowley where there was still a great amount of accumulating water on the roadway. Many cars tried to pass through the high water but had to end up turning around.
Joshua Martin, a resident on Standard Mill Road, says the water receded after Saturday's rain, but accumulated again today.
"Thankfully it flowed out pretty quick until the next morning when it started backing up again, shockingly we didn't get as much rain today as what it sounded like this morning, overall, it was slowly coming down," said Martin.
Martin says the water is still dangerous to drive through.
"I went down there just to get an idea," said Martin. "Lots of people were asking how bad it was, and I knew some of the people that live down there, so I just kind of drove and where I see they had the barricades up, I knew it was deep," said Martin.
Destinee Trahan, another resident on Standard Mill Road, says she's been staying at her grandmother's home since Saturday due to high water in her yard, driveway, and even inside of her home.
"I didn't trust to turn in my driveway because all I could see was the top of the rails in my driveway and the ditches surrounding my driveway is roughly five, six feet deep," said Trahan. "The last I heard it was still barricaded and there's actually a car stuck in the middle of the road by my house. It's impossible to pass."
Trahan sends a message to homeowners affected by the flood to remain strong and vigilant.
"I just want to sympathize with all the families that are going through what I am especially single moms that worked so hard," said Trahan. "Times like this, we just cannot give up, we have to stay strong, and we have to be a strong knit community."
