THE highly anticipated inaugural Victoria Falls Food and Wine Festival has shifted its dates. Originally set for May 22-25, the celebration of fine dining and world-class wine will now enchant attendees from May 29 to June 1 at the Baobab Primary School grounds. The festival culminates in an unforgettable musical finale featuring South African electronic pop sensations Goodluck and the iconic PJ Powers.
The food, wine, music, and fashion extravaganza will showcase renowned figures from the culinary and wine industries, including sommelier and winemaker Joseph Dhafana, wine distributor Albert Nhau, and executive chef Kimberly Chisiri, among others.
The Jabulani hit-maker PJ Powers, affectionately known as “Thandeka”, is set to dazzle fans on June 1 at the Baobab Primary School grounds. She will share the stage with Goodluck, the dynamic duo of Juliet “Jules” Harding and Ben Peters.
“I’m super excited to announce that we are going to be performing live at the Victoria Falls Food and Wine Festival. I can’t wait to be back in Zimbabwe, I can’t wait to see you. We’re going to have a blast, and we’re going to jam together,” said Goodluck’s Jules.
Joining the South African contingent is Afro-jazz musician James Sakala, popularly known as “Mkushi”, from Lusaka, Zambia. The stellar line-up also includes Bulawayo’s Band Fusion, DJ Ash T, Nizhe DeSoul — making a comeback after a recent car accident — DJ Wrangler, and a host of local talent from the resort city. Adding a sporty twist to the festivities, the Chefs Association of Zimbabwe will promote fine culinary arts through a volleyball tournament, also to be held on 29 May at the Baobab School Grounds.
According to event organiser Desmond Van J, the festival —under the theme “Savouring Victoria Falls: A Food and Wine Festival”— aims to highlight the region’s rich culinary heritage and exceptional wine offerings.
“The Victoria Falls Food and Wine Festival is a premier annual event that brings together food enthusiasts, wine connoisseurs, industry professionals, and cultural ambassadors from across Africa and beyond. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, this festival is a vibrant celebration of culinary excellence, fine wines, and regional culture.
“The festival serves as a platform to showcase the rich flavours, diverse cuisines, and exceptional wines from the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (Kaza) countries — Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola — as well as the wider African region, including Lesotho and South Africa,” he said.
Beyond its gastronomic appeal, the festival plays a vital role in promoting regional economic co-operation, tourism, and business opportunities, making it a must-attend event for industry leaders, investors, food lovers, and policymakers.
“The festival promises an immersive experience that blends fine dining, wine appreciation, business networking, and cultural exchange, making it a standout event on Africa’s food and wine calendar,” he said.
The festival is set to be a showcase of Africa’s rich cultural heritage, offering more than just food and wine. Attendees will be immersed in a celebration of the continent’s diverse traditions.
Guests can look forward to traditional music and dance performances reflecting the rhythms of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and Lesotho, alongside live jazz and acoustic sets that highlight talented African musicians blending jazz, blues, and contemporary sounds.
Culinary heritage talks will offer engaging storytelling sessions exploring the history and evolution of African cuisine.
Additionally, art and craft exhibitions will showcase exquisite handmade items, pottery, and locally woven textiles, inviting attendees to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that define Africa’s cultural landscape.
A Chef’s Cooking Competition will take place on May 30 and 31, while fashion enthusiasts can enjoy a fashion show on 3 May. This festival truly promises something for everyone.
