Al Jazeera reported that Hamas has announced the planned release of a U.S.-Israeli hostage held in Gaza. The news came via a statement issued by the group on Sunday, May 11, indicating ongoing direct negotiations with the United States aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.

The hostage, identified as Edan Alexander, holds dual American-Israeli nationality. While Hamas has not disclosed specific terms for his release, Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the country’s involvement only in facilitating a “safe corridor” for the hostage’s transfer and emphasized that no reciprocal concessions, including a ceasefire or prisoner swap, are on the table.

Israel’s government has maintained a firm stance that the release of Alexander will not result in any broader political or military concessions. A statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office underscored that this humanitarian move does not alter Israel’s operational goals in Gaza.
