Fans of Prison Break did a double take recently after actor Dominic Purcell shared a new look on Instagram that had many wondering if it was even him.
Purcell, best known for playing Lincoln Burrows on the hit Fox series, swapped his signature clean-shaven, rugged persona for a dramatically different appearance. Now 55, the British-Australian actor is sporting a full, bushy white beard—and fans have thoughts.
"For a second I didn't recognize you," replied one fan.
“He looks like a different man,” one commenter wrote, while another chimed in, “OMG! Santa Claus is in the house,” pairing the surprise with some seasonal emojis. Still, others praised the transformation.

In recent photos, Purcell is seen wearing a “My Brother’s Keeper” t-shirt—a nod to Prison Break’s memorable Season 1 flashback episode—further fueling fan nostalgia. But despite the throwback, there’s no official word on any Prison Break revival in the works.
Purcell’s beard seems to be a recent update. He appeared clean-shaven at his 2023 wedding to Trish Cyrus, mother of Miley Cyrus. But newer posts suggest he’s traded in the Hollywood grind for a quieter life in Tennessee, where he’s been boxing, surfing, and enjoying life off the grid.
Still, he’s not entirely off the radar. Purcell is currently working on two upcoming projects: Snatchback and Pendelum. While details are sparse, the roles hint he hasn’t completely stepped away from the action-packed characters he’s known for.
