ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County District Attorney's Office reported that 21-year-old Cheick Diarra confessed to his role in a 2024 firearm shootout in Albany. The Bronx man was arrested last October.
As part of his plea, Diarra admitted that on October 19, 2024, he and a stranger got into a dispute around 4 a.m. while in Albany's Madison Park that resulted in the two men exchanging gunfire. Diarra was shot in the abdomen during the altercation and was later treated for his injuries at Albany Medical Center.
Diarra pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Thursday before Judge William Little. He's expected to be sentenced to six and a half years in prison followed by five years of probation in accordance with his plea agreement.
Diarra's sentencing is scheduled for July 16. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as Albany Police continue to search for the other involved shooter.
