Omega's Latest Seamaster Has a Surprising New Design
Somewhat early on in 2006’s Casino Royale, Eva Green remarks upon Daniel Craig’s easy smile and expensive watch. She asks him—and assumes it is, as she presumes it must be because she knows his type—it’s a Rolex, to which he quickly corrects her, informing her that it is in fact an Omega. So while she may know his sort, she still doesn’t know him. In some ways, this seems to be what Omega has done with the introduction of its new Seamaster Planet Ocean Worldtimer in two colors.

The new Planet Ocean doesn’t look anything like what we’ve come to expect from Omega’s range of Seamaster watches, which tend toward your more traditional Divers or classic gold or steel cased pieces. Those watches tend to be both straightforward and elegantly unpretentious. This latest addition, however, adds a bit more ornamentation to the collection.
Reimagined in a new ceramic form, this new Seamaster was created with the global traveller in mind. Presented in both grey and turquoise models, the 45.5mm watch features a map of the world as seen from above the North Pole at its center. Surrounding this map is a 24-hour indication, dividing night and day, beneath hesalite glass.

The outer section of each dial is made with a DLC black color and is further embellished with a laser-ablated and polished honeycomb pattern. The destinations encircling the watch allow the wearer to track the day across multiple time zones, from Los Angeles to Sydney to Bienne, Switzerland (Omega’s home city).
At its heart is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938, which can also be viewed through the watch's caseback. Adding to the impressive particulars about this Seamaster is its water-resistance of 600 meters.
