The case of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que has alarmed the public because of the gruesome manner that he was killed. 

Here are the events that unraveled — from his and his driver’s abduction, to the arrest of the suspects in their killing.

March 29, 2025

Que, who’s into the steel business, arrives in Barangay Langka, Meycauayan, Bulacan with his driver Armanie Pabillo at around 2 pm. The two are spotted by a closed circuit television (CCTV) in the area. This is the last time they are seen alive.

Que and Pabillo are kidnapped by assailants in a house located in the said barangay, according to the police.

April 9, 2025

Que and Pabillo’s remains are discovered along Sitio Udiongan, Barangay Macabud, Rodriguez, Rizal. Their bodies are initially unidentified. Calabarzon regional police say a citizen discovered the cadavers in Rizal and reported the incident to the local police station. 

“Initial investigation revealed that the two bodies were placed in a nylon bag, tied with nylon rope, and their faces were wrapped with duct tape, lying on the grassy roadside verge to the left of the road leading towards Brgy. Macabud proper,” says a police report.

April 10, 2025

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo confirms that Que and Pabillo’s remains were discovered in Rizal. Calabarzon regional police also confirm the cadavers’ discovery. 

April 18, 2025

Police arrest two of the suspects  — Richardo Austria David and Raymart Catequista — in Roxas, Palawan. The two are nabbed at around 3 am.

April 19, 2025

Chinese David Tan Liao, the third suspect in the case, surrenders to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), confessing his alleged participation in the kidnapping and killing of the two victims. 

Fajardo says the three suspects had undergone inquest proceedings, which is an expedited type of preliminary investigation where prosecutors decide whether to charge arrested individuals or not. The PNP spokesperson adds that the three suspects were already charged with two counts of kidnapping with homicide, and are under the PNP AKG’s custody.

May 1, 2025

The PNP clears Alvin Que, the businessman’s son, in the kidnapping and killing of his father.

Alvin is a respondent to the complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) after one of the suspects claims he ordered the killing of his own father.

May 9, 2025

Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon says the prosecutors have yet to resolve the motion filed by the PNP to drop Alvin Que as one of the respondents in the complaint. This means Que’s son remains as one of the respondents in the complaint.

May 17, 2025

The PNP arrest 27-year-old Gong Wenli (also known as Kelly Tan Lim), who’s also an undesirable alien because of his insufficient documentation and his alleged threat to public safety and security.

Police say Gong’s alleged involvement was determined through a CCTV footage and the other suspect’s extrajudicial confessions. They also say that kidnappers allegedly demanded a $20-million ransom. The Que family paid around P200 million through cryptocurrency in several tranches.

May 20, 2025

Fajardo says in an interview with GMA’s DZBB that the police are looking for the remaining suspect in the Que case. Out of five, Jonin Lin is the only suspect who remains at large, says the PNP spokesperson. According to Fajardo, Lin is among the individuals who held Que and Pabillo in captivity for almost 11 days.

May 21, 2025

Alvin Que attends the preliminary investigation into the complaints filed in relation to his father’s killing. His lawyer, Pearlito Campanilla, says his client has submitted his sworn affidavit to the prosecutors to respond to the allegations. – Rappler.com
