Sunshine, heat builds around Portland on Memorial Day weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat slowly builds as the unofficial start to the summer season gets underway this weekend.
Morning clouds will fade to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon hours. That sunshine will push afternoon highs into the low to mid-70s for the Willamette Valley on Friday. That's the start of Portland's latest warming trend.
Portland's Rose Festival and City Fair get underway on Friday. That's where dry skies and comfortable temperatures are expected for the first night of fun.
Warmer temperatures will take Portland into the weekend. The peak of the heat arrives Saturday with highs in the low 80s for the valley. A few more clouds will help cool temperatures into the upper 70s by Sunday and low 70s by Monday. A weak low system back bring in a chance of isolated showers to the region alongside the cooler temperatures.
Those heading to the coast can expect mild conditions and mostly dry, sunny skies. A perfect coastal getaway is expected to last well into next week.
Temperatures will rebound again next week. Summer-like heat will push Portland area temperatures into the 80s through Wednesday.
