Popular Jersey Ramen Restaurant Shuts Down After 9 Years
The restaurant business can be a volatile one, and the changing landscape has spelled the end for beloved eateries around the nation.
Rising rent costs, differences in customer appetites and the rise of delivery services has been a bad mix for many restaurants, and another establishment in a major city is set to close its doors.
After spending nine years in downtown Jersey City, NJ, Miso Ramen will be shutting down. The location at 189 Newark Avenue announced that its final day of operations will be Thursday, May 29.
"Thank you for all your support over the years," the restaurant said in its farewell message on Instagram.
Miso Ramen opened in early 2016, and quickly became popular with locals for the diverse menu options. Some fans were appreciative of the gluten-free and vegan options on offer, as Miso was one of the only gluten-free ramen restaurants in town.
The restaurant has a four-star rating on Yelp, with many reviewers citing the menu and cozy atmosphere - perfect for hot ramen on cold, wintry days.
"Favorite place for ramen in downtown Jersey City!," said one reviewer.
"The service here is fast and friendly. It's a cozy spot to eat ramen on any day. The ramen was delicious and I loved the broth. When I'm craving a bowl of ramen, you'll probably find me here!"
"Ordered the Chashu pork ramen - it came out piping hot and was delicious. Plenty of seating and fast service! Reasonable prices too. Recommend checking this place out," said another visitor in a positive review.
"We popped in for a quick bite while shopping and got the gyoza, chashu ramen and karage. All unbelievably delicious," another reviewer said, patronizing the establishment while visiting from out of town.
"The place doesn't look impressive but the food sure was. If we lived in Jersey we'd come every week!"
The restaurant had several local fans and received great word-of-mouth from locals taking visitors there when they came to the city. Unfortunately, the great service, diverse menu and tasty food were not enough to keep the restaurant in business.
As rising costs continue to affect the industry, another popular restaurant will be no more by the end of the week.
