Ravine Park pool was a popular spot in East Toledo on a hot summer day since its opening in 1969. In this 2005 Blade archive photo, Lloyd Belmon of south Toledo looks like he’s defying gravity just after leaping off of the high dive at the pool. On hot days, the pool drew capacity crowds – one especially steamy July day, 3,500 people were counted during the afternoon. Shuttered in 2009, the pool was demolished in 2013, despite community efforts to save it. Summer season for city pools this year starts Monday. In addition to five pools, there are two splash pads, including a new pad at Jamie Farr Park which is set to open later this summer.
