Donald Trump firmly opposes any uranium enrichment in a potential Iran deal, criticizing previous U.S. policies and emphasizing strict limits.

The U.S. President Donald Trump stated firmly that his country would not allow any uranium enrichment under any agreement with Iran.

On Monday, June 2, Trump posted on the social media platform Truth, declaring, “In any potential deal, we will not allow any uranium enrichment!” This came in response to a report by Axios suggesting Washington’s new proposal to Tehran might permit limited low-enriched uranium enrichment on Iranian soil.

Trump blamed the Biden administration for the current state of affairs, arguing that President Joe Biden should have stopped Iran’s uranium enrichment much earlier.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that if the negotiations aim to deprive Iran of its peaceful nuclear program, no agreement would be reached.

U.S. nuclear negotiator Steve Witkoff emphasized Washington’s “red line” as a complete ban on uranium enrichment in Iran. Despite ongoing talks, Iran has insisted it will continue uranium enrichment “with or without” an agreement.

The ongoing nuclear negotiations reflect deep-rooted mistrust between the two countries, with Washington demanding strict limitations and Tehran insisting on its sovereign right to peaceful nuclear activities. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), uranium enrichment is a sensitive issue that impacts regional and global security, making these talks crucial for stability in the Middle East.

Experts note that previous agreements, such as the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), allowed limited enrichment under strict supervision. However, the recent U.S. stance signals a tougher approach, complicating prospects for renewed diplomacy.
