20-goal star wants £250k per week as United line up talks over £60m transfer - report

Manchester United have been active during the early phase of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils had a dismal end to the previous campaign as they failed to qualify for any European competition.

Despite this, they have shown ambition by agreeing to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million.

The club are now in pole position to land Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

The Cameroonian ace has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle, but he has decided that he wants to join United.

The Times now report that Mbeumo is eyeing a five-fold increase on his current wages at Brentford.

The winger earns £50,000 per week and is aiming to secure £250,000 weekly with the switch to Old Trafford.

United are poised to open talks with the Bees for the 25-year-old. A deal could cost in the region of £60 million.

Despite United’s league woes last season, it can’t be ignored that they have one of the biggest wage bills in England.

The Red Devils have consistently demonstrated their ability to offer substantial salaries to secure their top targets.

This has provided them an advantage over the chasing pack for Mbeumo.

However, a deal may not be straightforward for the winger, who accumulated 20 goals and eight assists in the league last term.

United must reduce their excessive wage bill. The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho need to be offloaded soon.

The duo are on around £300,000 per week, as per The Times. The departure of either player would seal the deal for Mbeumo.

It is far easier said than done. There are no clubs in Europe interested in matching their significant salaries at the current point.

A loan exit seems the most likely solution at the moment unless one of them is prepared to accept a pay cut to leave permanently.

Barcelona are keen on landing Rashford, while Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly admirers of Sancho.

Mbeumo’s preference has put United at the front of the line to sign him, but a transfer could take at least a few weeks.
